Indian classic music is popular in Indian subcontinent. These music is kind of art which come from Indian culture and civilization of Indians. Indian classic music divided into two main branches. A sub-branch of this music that is common in the northern parts of India named as Hindustani and The branch that is common in southern India is called Carnatic. The division of this music into these branches took place in the 16th century AD after the Muslim conquest of northern India.

Hindustani music

The performance of Hindustani music is set to a melodic pattern called a raga; Ragas may originate from any source, including religious hymns, folk tunes, and music from outside the Indian subcontinent. Carnatic music

The main emphasis in Carnatic music is on vocal music; most compositions are written to be sung, and even when played on instruments, they are meant to be performed in a singing style, like Hindustani music ragas are most important part of its own nature. Carnatic music is usually performed by a small group of musicians, who sit on an elevated stage together.

After rising of Bollywood, needs to movies soundtracks was sensed. In case of response to these needs, classical Carnatic, Hindustani, and village folk was used widely in Indian movies. Over the years, Western elements have increased significantly in Bollywood and soundtracks are not exception. Gradually filmi genre took distance from other Indian subcontinent’s music.
